Knitting: Mini Faroese Shawl

Square, circular, triangular...shawls come in lots of shapes. Long
ago the incredible knitters of the Faroe Islands came up with a
sophisticated and very cool variation on the triangular shawl, with
shaping around a center gusset and more shaping at the edges, along with
very subtle shoulder shaping. And because of that shoulder shaping, a
Faroese shawl won't fall off your shoulders! No need for a shawl pin.
In this class, we'll knit a miniature version of a Faroese
shawl--a neck/shoulder shawl with all of the sweet Faroese shaping.
We'll do all of that unusual shaping and will add in a sweet little lace
pattern. Your shawl will use about 50 grams of a sportweight yarn
(100% wool is always best, of course...), which we'll knit loosely on
perhaps a #7 or #8 needle (Greg suggests a 24" circular needle). Skills
(which will be taught if you don't already know them) involved will be
left- and right-leaning decreases, reading a lace chart, and (possibly)
some form of provisional cast-on.
