Crochet: Beginner Amigurumi Owl

Crochet: Beginner Amigurumi Owl
With Anna Reisetter

Tuesdays, August 8 and 15, 5:30-7:30 pm
$55 + supplies

Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small yarn creatures, and this simple and adorable crocheted amigurumi owl is the perfect project to get started with! While not for total newbies, this class is great for beginners who have a comfortable grasp on the basic crochet stitches, but would like to expand their skills with a quick, fun project. In this project you'll use the single and half double crochet stitches, and will learn the magic ring technique, crocheting in a spiral, increasing, decreasing, and how to finish and join pieces. You'll also be able to customize your owl's peepers using embroidery, buttons, or safety eyes (pictured). After this class, you'll be cranking out adorable amigurumi animals for all your friends in no time! Ages 16 and up.

Supplies needed:
  • Light weight yarn in up to 4 colors: 50m for the base/body color, 10m for eye color (white recommended), and 10m for each of the two wing colors. You can also use a single wing color, in which case you would need about 20m of that one color instead.
  • 2.5-4mm crochet hook, or according to the yarn.
  • Polyester fiberfill for stuffing
  • Embroidery floss (for beak, and for embroidered eye if desired)
  • 9mm safety eyes (provided in class), or buttons or beads for eyes
  • Yarn needle, scissors, stitch marker or extra yarn scraps for marking
  • Pattern provided in class
