Kids Summer Camps 2016
Does your kiddo have a desire to learn how to sew, knit, quilt, weave, print, dye, draw or weave? Do you want your kids to attend an insanely fun summer camp with other kids their own age? Does the idea of teaching your own child how to do any of these things make you less than a little excited? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then Home Ec. Summer Camps are perfect for your kid(s)! Summer 2016 brings with it amazing, ALL NEW summer camps as well as popular camps from last year featuring new activities and projects!
Throughout each week, campers will be creating kid-approved projects, as well as developing the skills and a creative mindset to keep crafting long after camp is over. We keep the camps size small, so each kid gets one on one attention from our teachers, who have combined over 10 years of experience teaching kids how to craft. The small sizes also let our campers connect with one another and make new friends. By the end of the week, your kiddo will get to take home some fabulous hand-made projects, the ability to make many more, and fun memories of camp!
The schedule below provides information about each of the camps. The cost includes instruction, as well as all of the supplies necessary for the crafts. Please call Home Ec. (319-337-4775) if you have any questions related to the camps!
*Cancellation Policy*
We require at least two weeks notice if you are going to cancel your child's registration to one of our camps. There will be a $50 cancellation fee taken out of your refund. If you cancel two weeks or less prior to the start of the camp, we are unable to offer a refund or store credit. No make up dates will be offered if your child misses any days of camp.

Fun With Felt Camp
Monday-Friday, June 6-10, 9-12

Ages 8 and up
Felt is amazing in so many different ways, and is the perfect medium for kids---easy to cut, easy to sew and millions of cute projects! During this camp we will make felt pinecone critters, wet felt soap bars, needle felt ornaments/key chains, and make little terrariums, all while learning many hand-sewing and embroidery techniques. Kids are fast learners when it comes to felt crafts, so they will be able to make more fabulous creations for the rest of the summer!
PRINT, PRINT! DYE, DYE!

Spend the week exploring a variety of dyeing and printing techniques. Students will have a blast indigo dyeing, ice dyeing and shibori dyeing on fabric (feel free to bring t-shirts if you would like). Students will also make drawings and learn how to create a screen and screen print on fabric. During the camp we will also be block printing and sun printing! We will use the fabric to create a tote bag, a throw pillow or stuffed animal, stationary and a decorative wall hanging. So much fun and creativity packed into a week of camp!
Sewing Camp
Monday-Friday, June 13-17, 12-3

One of our most popular camps is back and full of fun new projects! This is the perfect camp for any kid who wants to learn all the basics of sewing. We will spend a majority of the week learning how to use the sewing machines, while making zippered pencil cases, fabric basket, pillowcases, as well as learning very useful hand sewing techniques through the embroidered wall art project. Every camper will end the week as budding sewers, with the skills to create even more hand-sewn projects.
Little Big Kid Fiber Arts Camp
Monday-Wednesday, June 20-22, 9-12

Ages 5 and up
Kids of all ages should be able to craft. This camp is for those kids who are may be a little younger in age, but still have a passion for crafting! Each project is extra kid approved and perfect for building up skills used throughout any type of crafting. Campers will get to dye yarn with Kool-Aid, weave cute coaster, embroider tissue pockets, and learn the basics of finger knitting. This may just be one of the cutest camps around!
Mixed Media Drawing and Painting Camp

Spend the week making art using a variety of materials. We will draw with pencils, ink, fabric, paint and thread. We will make small drawings, giant paintings, medium sized collages! We will be drawing and sewing onto paper and wood and cardboard. We will draw by observing objects and people and we will draw from our imaginations! This camp is going to be SO. MUCH. FUN!!
Kitchen Creations Sewing Camp
Monday-Friday, June 27- July 1, 12-3

We don't know about you, but crafting makes us work up an appetite! To put our grumbling tummies at ease, we decided to have Kitchen Kreations Camp! During the week, kids will sew and craft projects related to the kitchen and cooking. They will sew up an apron, coasters, and potholders. They will also get to make stamps out of food and "cook" Kool-Aid flavored lip balm. The biggest treat of all? On Friday, they will get to bake up a mini meal with our fabulous cook Val!
Little Big Kid Sewing Camp
Wednesday-Friday, July 6-8, 12-3

We just cannot get enough of little big kid camps, so we decided to add a second week of it! In this camp, your kiddo will get to do projects focused on sewing, with a mixture of hand-sewing and machine sewing (under the watchful eye of our teacher). Kids will get to sew printed pillows and sock animals and make adorable little finger puppets and be inspired by the outdoors with the firefly jar. This camp is the the perfect first step for your kid becoming an amazing sewer!
Fiber Arts Camp
Monday-Friday, July 11-15, 9-12

Ages 8 and up
Fiber arts is a pretty broad area of crafting, but we will try to touch on a little bit of everything! Kids will get the opportunity to spin their own yarn, dye yarn/fabric, weave on looms, and learn to knit! This is the perfect camp for any camper who loves hands-on (and maybe a wee bit messy) projects.
Teen Sewing Camp

Spend the week sewing a bag, a tank top (or T-shirt) and a skirt (or shorts or PJ pants:). Student will learn how to read a sewing pattern, cut out patterns (and decipher all of those symbols!), and sew on a sewing machine. We will be using professional patterns that students will be able to take home at the end of class.
Holiday Sewing Camp
Monday-Friday, July 18-22, 12-3

After Independence Day, summer is sadly devoid of holidays until good 'ole Labor Day comes around, but we want to change that! Kids will get the opportunity to enjoy a year's worth of holidays in one week! We will sew a stocking and a pumpkin trick or treat bag, paint hand-blown easter eggs, stitch up some valentines and make their own crackers to ring in the new year!
Quilting Camp
Monday-Friday, July 25-29, 9-12

Ages 8 and up
People have said it can't be done...kids finishing a quilt in a week?! You may think it is impossible, but we are here to prove otherwise! Throughout the week, the kids will learn the basics of quilting (piecing, tying, attaching a binding, etc.) while creating their very own chevron quilt to bring home on Friday. One of the kiddos favorite camps!
Fashion Camp
Monday-Friday, August 1-5, 12-3

Ages 8 and up
This is the camp for all those future designers or project runway lovers! In this camp you will be able to make a whole outfit, with room for tons of creativity when it comes to fabric selection and embellishment! By making everything from skirts/shorts to scarves and accessories, every camper will learn all the skills to start creating a wardrobe of their very own!
Back to School Sewing Camp

As it's one of our last weeks of summer camps, we decided it would be fitting to look ahead to the fall and get your kiddo ready to start back to school! With snazzy new hand-sewn school supplies (like a zippered pencil pouch, notebook cover and lunchbag), your kiddo is guaranteed to be thrilled to head back to school in the fall!
